Los Banos Rotary Fills the Food Bank, Shaves the Police Chief

Background: The Los Banos Police Department kicked off their collection of non-perishable food items at their October open house event. Since then, they've received many donations, but not as much as they had hoped for.

The police department now has resorted to desperate measures to collect much needed food for the Los Banos community food banks and three local community organizations have stepped up to help.

Chief of Police Gary Brizzee began growing a retro 70’s era mustache. Many of the Chief’s close friends, colleagues and family have pleaded with him to shave it to no avail. The Chief stated he will shave his “salt and pepper”
mustache for the first group that comes forward with 100 non-perishable food items. Any group who donates 500 non-perishable food items can have their representative also shave the Chief’s well-manicured, preppy hair off his
head at a public location.

“That mustache is ridiculous, and it’s got to go. I am pleading with the people of Los Banos to please donate non-perishable foods for our community food banks,” said Steve Carrigan, City Manager.

Rotary to the Rescue:
Well Mr. City Manager, three Los Banos groups have heard you and have responded. The Los Banos Rotary Club was the first to donate 500 food items. Any and all were invited to witness the public shaving of Chief Brizzee's head by representatives of the Los Banos Rotary Club on Fri., Nov. 14, outside in front of the Los Banos Police Department, within public view of the entire community of Los Banos. The Merced County Fair Board of Directors also donated 500 food items, and Soroptimist International of Los
Banos donated the 100 food items so that Chief Brizzee would remove what City Manager Steve Carrigan calls a, "ridiculous" mustache.

And this is just the beginning. More food is needed and if you want to bring a can or two with you I'm sure the chief will appreciate your donation!"
