Mark
Knapp, Chief of Police and Chet Guintini, Fire Chief
9-15-2010
They
talked about Measure A, which is an amendment to Measure P.
Measure P, passed
in 2004 approved a 0.5% sales tax to provide funding
for new equipment and
facilities for the Los Banos Police and Fire
Departments.
The measure
was written in such a way as to prevent both the state and
the Los Banos General
Fund from appropriating Measure P funds.
Now they are asking the residents
to approve Measure A.
Measure A will divert funds from facilities to personnel
for five years,
at which time it will expire. This measure will provide funding
for 2
Fire Fighters and 4 Police Officers.
Effects of cut backs due
to reduced finds from sales tax and property
taxes: Loss of 3 positions in
the LB Fire Department, 9 Police Officers
and 10 other Police Deparment Personnel.
Chiefs
Knapp & Guintini stated-
* Their departments will NOT be adding additional
personnel
* There will be NO pay raises [there shouldn't be as the police refused
pay cuts when other city employees were forced to accept them]
* There
will be NO co-mingling of funds.
* The funds transferred from equipment and
facilities will not be paid back.
