Today's Speaker: Brenda Latham, Dean of Merced College, Los Banos Campus

Brenda talked about the old college vs the new, physical, capacities,
changes and then future possibilities and plans.
* Old Campus-
11 class rooms
18,000 sq ft
291 student capacity
* New Campus-
21 class rooms
46,288 sq ft
615 student capacity
1st graduating class 2007
[Los Banos Measure J added to state funding built campus]
* Changes Fall 2006 - Fall 2009-
10% more classes offered
54% more full-time faculty
old = 2 degrees vs new= 8 degrees plus 6 certificates
* Fast Track Program = divide semesters & offer 2 classes [sections] per
semester
* Spring semester begins mid January 2010 with 20 classes already full
* Issues:
Parking [already over-flowing]
Grounds [ lighting, etc]
Food Service [use frozen & microwave]
* Technology - now state of the art
* Library
same physical size
Falasco donation allows for books to be purchased using interest only
Students can reserve text books
Word processing available
3 part-time staff
* LB College is active in community out-reach projects & activities
* Future
State Legislature is considering reducing funding of non-academic
courses and re-purposing the curriculum
Dean's List proposed = subsidiary of Presidents Circle, to work on
additional local funding
