Galloway Tells Of Mexico Vacation
Wade Galloway, former local farm implement dealer who has retired to a less strenuous life of leisure and golf, Tuesday noon gave members of the local Rotary Club a brief review of a recent vacation trip which he and Mrs. Galloway made through the interior of Mexico.
Traveling by car they entered Mexico at Nogales, and down to Guadalahara, where they spent several days before continuing on down the new highway to Mexico City. They returned via the eastern route, stopping briefly at Acapulca and back to the States via Loredo.
Galloway said he enjoyed most of the trip, including the bull fights at Mexico City. But neither he nor Mrs. Galloway enjoyed parts of the roadway, especially the tortuous, twisting drive over a 10,000 foot mountain range; nor in competing for the right-of-way with fellow motorists in Mexico City. After one brief excursion in their own car, they parked it in a garage and used taxis for the rest of their stay there.
The Galloways enjoyed the many fine buildings and imposing architecture of Mexico City, but missed the lack of conveniences and accepted standards of life as they are in California, and at the end of the trip were quite happy to be returning home.
Galloway pointed out there are but two kinds of people in the country, the very rich and the very poor. Automobiles are few and far between, service stations in proportion, and quality of gasoline about the same. They were surprised at the widespread use of burros for travel in the country, and also at the common practice of a man riding the family burro while the wife walked patiently at his side.
Galloway said they were glad they made the trip, but that he has no particular inclination to spend another vacation in a similar area – possibly because he could find no vacationing friends with whom to play golf. He pointed out, however, they met many tourists from this country, many of whom would consider no other vacation spot and return there year after year.
