Al Fittje Shows Travel Slides
Al Fittje, division superintendent for the Central California Irrigation District, Tuesday noon gave fellow members of the Rotary Club an interesting travelogue and pictorial of a recent vacation trip taken by himself and his wife through Yellowstone National Park and adjacent areas.
Fittje, who is an expert amateur photographer, showed a number of colored slides of scenes taken along the way, including some exceptional shots of the Snake River, and of the numerous geysers, lakes and hot springs in the park.
Fittje said he was particularly impressed by the intense farming in Idaho, and quality of the alfalfa grown there. He said that in some sections of the potato crop, which is the number one agriculture crop, suffered heavily from an unseasonably early frost, with some farmers losing as much as two-thirds of their crop.
The weather, he said, was delightful through the entire trip, though quite cool, with snow on the nearby mountains in the higher elevations. Fittje said he highly recommends a late fall trip for people who have seen the park only during the summer months, as the brilliant colorings of the trees and shrubs present an entirely different appearance than does the common green of summer.
